Our social value strategy ensures we can make a positive difference.
Social Value Efforts
To ensure our strategy incorporates the key areas of social value required by our customers, we have formed our approach by using the themes taken from the Social Value Portals ‘The National TOMs’ model. The model is supported by our delivery methodology which is available on request.
CHARITY INITIATIVES
At MCS, our core values underscore our commitment to supporting charities and voluntary organisations. Over the years, we have proudly backed numerous causes, ranging from local initiatives near our offices to those meaningful to our customers. In 2022, we achieved a remarkable milestone by raising £81,844.94 for the Grand Appeal – Bristol Children’s Hospital through our Croatia Challenge, a 200km cycling endeavour across Croatia. This achievement was made possible through the generous sponsorships of our family, friends, customers, and supply chain partners. We replicated this success in 2023 with our Mallorca Challenge, raising £28,677.88 for the same incredible charity.
Closer to our London office, we forged a close partnership with the Royal Orthopedic Hospital. Our donation of £13,650 covered funding and goody bags for their patients, and we even designed 'feel good' stickers to uplift the spirits of those receiving the bags. Recognising the importance of supporting local sports teams, our sponsorship activities extend beyond financial contributions. They serve as a testament to our belief in the potential of youth, the strength of our communities, and the significance of physical and mental well-being. Through these initiatives, we strive to ensure environments where young talents flourish, communities bond, and future leaders emerge. In 2023 alone, MCS proudly raised an impressive £63,997.89 for charities across Bristol and London through fundraising and donations to our customer and supplier charities. Additionally, we contributed £31,161.11 to local sports clubs and initiatives. These efforts reflect our dedication to being a socially responsible business, making a positive impact on our communities, and fostering a culture of giving and support.
Mental Health World Cup
Some of the MCS Ltd team took a trip up to London recently to take part in The Mental Health World Cup at QPR’s Loftus Road Stadium. The MHWC is the UK’s leading charity 5-a-side football tournament for the fight to prevent male suicide and this year we were proud to be one of the main sponsors as well as taking part.
Launched in 2012, the MHWC raises vital awareness and funds for the charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and other mental health initiatives. It has become a key fundraising and social event for the construction industry, where suicide rates are three times higher than the UK average.
Over the course of half a day, teams battled it out in a 5-a-side spectacular at QPR’s home ground, in a bid to be crowned Mental Health World Cup champions. All teams had around an hour of playing time on the pitch and at least four matches against nations from around the world.
MCS were also lucky enough to be one of the main sponsors for the event which saw over 300 players take part.
Community and Sports Sponsorship
At MCS, we prioritise the health and well-being of individuals, considering it as one of our fundamental values. Recently, we seized the opportunity to support the rugby academy kits of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College for their tour to Spain and France. It’s was great for us to witness the involvement of five players from Cleve RFC, a local rugby club whose kits we also proudly sponsor.
Recognising that the younger generation holds the key to the future, we are committed to backing our local youth in every possible manner. Sponsorship enables us to equip youth teams with top-notch gear and resources. When young athletes feel valued and supported, it fosters their growth and nurtures their self-assurance. As part of our ongoing commitment, we are sponsoring Cleve Rugby Club for the 2023/2024 season, extending our support to all youth and adult teams.
Furthermore, we have extended our sponsorship to Cullompton Rangers Under 10s football team by providing them with matching training tops for the current season. As a newly formed team, having matching kits instills a sense of unity and belonging among the players.
Chipping Sodbury RFC holds a special place in our sponsorship endeavors, encompassing their Mini and youth sections, ranging from Under 7s to Under 16s, as well as their Colts, men’s senior teams, and women’s section.
In addition, we proudly sponsor Coalpit Heath FC’s Under 8s and Under 10s, contributing to both their home and training kits. As a local team, supporting Coalpit Heath aligns with our commitment to nurturing our community.
Lastly, we are honored to sponsor the youth teams of Billericay Town FC, providing them with kits that not only unify them visually but also instill a sense of pride and confidence in their sporting endeavors. By ensuring they look the part, we empower these young athletes to excel on the field.
