Celebrating Women in Construction Trades: A Day of Empowerment at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College

During National Apprenticeship Week 2024, MCS and South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) joined forces to host the Women in Construction Trades event at their Horizon 38 campus. It was a day filled with inspiration, insight, and a celebration of women forging their paths in the construction industry.

The event drew girls from various academic disciplines within the college, all eager to explore the possibilities within trade and management careers. What made this gathering particularly special was the firsthand knowledge and experiences shared by women who are already making waves in the industry. From current apprentices to recent graduates, each speaker offered a unique perspective that resonated deeply with the audience.

One standout moment was the presentation by Hannah Jacob, our esteemed Health and Safety Advisor. Hannah’s journey from an apprentice plumber to a seasoned professional in construction health and safety served as a beacon of hope and possibility for many attendees. Her story illustrated the vast opportunities available within the construction sector and highlighted the importance of perseverance and dedication in achieving career goals.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in meaningful discussions, networked with industry professionals, and gained valuable insights into the diverse career paths available to them. It was truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and determination radiating from every corner of the room.

As we reflect on this successful event, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to South Gloucestershire and Stroud College for their invaluable partnership. Their unwavering support and commitment to empowering women in traditionally male-dominated fields are commendable, and we look forward to more collaborations in the future.

To all the attendees, speakers, and organisers who made this event possible, thank you for your dedication and passion. Together, we are breaking barriers, shattering stereotypes, and paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse construction industry.

Here’s to celebrating the remarkable achievements of women in construction trades and to a future filled with endless possibilities.
