Carbon Reduction
CARBON REDUCTION AT MCS
At MCS, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and spearheading the construction industry’s transition to a more sustainable future.
Our Carbon Baseline
To accurately measure our progress and set meaningful targets, we’ve established a comprehensive carbon baseline using the robust Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) methodology.
Baseline Carbon Footprint: Our total carbon baseline equates to 174.87 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This footprint is categorised into three scopes as per the GHG Protocol:
- Scope 1 and 2: Direct emissions from our operations and indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy, comprising 16% of our baseline.
- Scope 3: All other indirect emissions that occur in our value chain, making up the remaining 84%.
Within Scope 3, 94% of emissions are attributed to three main categories:
- Purchased goods and services: 30%
- Fuel and energy-related activities not covered in Scope 1 or 2: 17%
- Business travel: 47%

Our Commitment to Carbon Reduction
Our mission is to significantly reduce our carbon footprint in the coming years. With a dedicated carbon reduction plan in development, we are aligning our operations with global standards and targets:
- 2030: A 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from our baseline year, 2022.
- 2045: MCS Ltd’s SBTI aligned Net Zero target.
- 2050: Alignment with the UK Government’s Net Zero target.
As we continue to refine our strategies and implement new technologies, MCS is dedicated to updating our stakeholders on our progress towards these ambitious goals.
