INTRODUCING T LEVELS AT MCS

ABOUT THE CASE STUDY

In 2024, MCS took its first steps into the world of T Levels by welcoming two students as part of an exploratory initiative to determine whether these placements would align with our needs and to ensure that we can provide enough support for these students.

Over the past year, MCS has been thoroughly impressed by the T Level students’ knowledge, confidence, and capabilities. This positive experience has led us to increase our T Level intake for the 2025/26 period as we have learned how we can support T Level students through their journey but also how they can be a great asset to us.

Max’s Placement Journey

One of these students, Max, joined MCS in June 2024 as part of his Engineering T Level for London University Technical College. With an eagerness to gain hands-on experience, Max embarked on his placement working with the Quantity Surveyors. His enthusiasm for taking on challenging tasks and his consistent return to site work for his placement and in his free time has demonstrated his commitment to learning and contributing.

Max has excelled in both mechanical and electrical tasks, earning admiration and respect from the team for his understanding of quantity surveying and engineering. His enthusiasm and proactive approach have made him an invaluable member of the site team. Some of the significant tasks Max has undertaken include:

  • Performing take-offs for the electricians
  • Assisting with lighting design in collaboration with Ryan
  • Sourcing fans and ventilation systems for the office
  • Designing and sizing ductwork.
  • Creating a custom glass trap for the AHU (Air Handling Unit) to manage static pressure and prevent water ingress into the unit.

Personal Reflections from Max

When reflecting on his placement experience, Max highlighted his enjoyment of designing drawings for ductwork and ventilation systems. Knowing that his efforts will have a lasting, positive impact.

Max shared this advice for future placement students:

“Be more prepared than you think you need to be and be ready for any tasks that might be given to you!”

As Max’s placement draws to a close, his enthusiasm for site work remains strong. He is keen to continue gaining experience and has been actively applying for engineering apprenticeships to further his career. His dedication and ambition are evident in every step he takes.

Ryan, who has worked closely with Max, shared his appreciation for Max’s contributions:

“We will definitely be reaping the benefits of the work Max is doing here.”
