HEALTH & SAFETY

EMBEDDING A CULTURE OF CARE,
COMPLIANCE, AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

At MCS, health and safety isn’t a department, it’s a mindset that underpins everything we do. As a fast-growing, people-oriented business operating in complex, high-risk environments, we have developed a mature, robust, and proactive safety culture that reflects both our legal duties and our moral responsibility to everyone affected by our work.

A Strategic and Integrated Approach

Our strategy ensures full alignment with the Building Safety Act 2022 and all relevant legislation, but we go further, embedding health and safety into the fabric of our operations, culture, and decision-making

The following principles guide our daily behaviours on site and across our business units, ensuring safety is everyone’s responsibility and a shared success.

Ensuring every individual is equipped to work safely and effectively.

From Intent to Impact: How We Built Our SHEQ Excellence

Recognising the critical link between growth, client satisfaction, and high safety standards, MCS took decisive steps in 2020 to formalise and elevate its health, safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) strategy

This included the appointment of a dedicated SHEQ Director and the development of an integrated management system designed to exceed compliance and drive continuous improvement. Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, we successfully achieved ISO 45001:2018 certification in 2022, and have since renewed this following a rigorous 3-year audit cycle.

Our health and safety culture has matured in parallel with our business

  • From 25 employees and £7m turnover in 2019
  • 150+ employees and projected £100m turnover in 2025/26
  • All while maintaining an exemplary Accident Frequency Rate (AFR)

significantly below industry averages

Accountability, Assurance & Accreditation

Our commitment is evidenced through

  • Ongoing accreditation to ISO 45001:2018
  • Certified SSIP/CHAS, Constructionline, and SafeContractor status
  • Audited partnerships with clients and supply chain
  • Cyber Essentials Plus for IT and data compliance

We also take a progressive view of safety governance, recognising that compliance and social value go hand in hand. That’s why we’ve established a dedicated Social Value & Sustainability Department, and in 2025, welcomed our first SHEQ Apprentice as part of our long-term investment in people and the profession.

Our Safety Culture in Practice

  • Safety starts at the top, with directors leading by example
  • Every project is supported by a dedicated SHEQ team including Regional Managers, Coordinators, and a Quality Manager
  • We actively promote, reward, and recognise positive safety behaviours across the business
  • We continually invest in smarter tools, data systems, and pre-emptive risk management to stay ahead

Fit for the future

MCS’s safety strategy isn’t static. It’s evolving, just like the environments we work in. As we scale, innovate, and take on increasingly complex projects, our promise remains clear:

To protect people, ensure compliance, and deliver every project with the same care, diligence, and integrity that defines the MCS name.

AT THE HEART OF OUR APPROACH ARE THE 4 Cs:
